Rock 2 ReBuild - Capital Region Tsunami Relief Benefit Concert Raises $26,000+

ALBANY, NY (February 11, 2005) – Some of the Capital District's brightest musical stars joined together in concert Friday night at Albany's landmark Palace Theatre for "Rock2Rebuild, the Capital District Benefit for Tsunami Relief.” The event raised over $26,000.00 for children & families devastated by the South Asian tsunami. More than 1,800 tickets were sold. The $26,000+ derived from ticket sales, a prize raffle, donations, & a portion of sales from performer merchandise & Palace theater concessions are being split evenly between the tsunami relief funds of international aid organizations, Habitat for Humanity & Save the Children. Mayor Gerald Jennings joined personalities from local radio and television on stage during the six hour concert, which featured performances by The Burners UK, w/ special guest, Ernie Williams; Hair of The Dog; Doc Scanlon's All-Star Revue w/ Johnny Rabb & Jill Hughes; Sirsy; the Brian Kaplan Band; Hector On Stilts; Delmar's Caffeine Crew; RPI a capella groups, the Rensselyrics & the Rusty Pipes. Works by local artists and members of Albany Underground Artists were on display in the foyer. In a letter of greeting, NY Governor, George Pataki, wrote, “In the spirit of a barn-raising, where many hands make the burden lighter, these excellent musicians and conscientious organizers have banded together with hard-working volunteers to reach around the world. Through international aid organizations, those assembled here tonight contribute in a meaningful way towards rebuilding & sustaining the shattered young lives of the tsunami’s smallest victims.” The Palace Theatre, Rock2Rebuild’s community partner, is still accepting donations for the R2R charities. The people of the Capital Region have always opened their hearts to those in need. And once again, you have shown your generous spirit by attending this event to support the victims of the tsunami.
